Jan 30, 2014·Madder powder also gives a beautiful pink either added directly to the soap or infused into oil added to the soap. Turmeric ( use very little ) also will give you a beautiful vibrant yellow, be aware that it will fade in cold process soap. Indigo will make a beautiful blue, just use a powder made for soap use not dye.

Heat a little bit of one of your oils (olive oil works great for an infusion) and steep the tea bags in the oils. I use what seems like an excessive number of tea bags.

One of my favorite ways to use botanicals in soap is to make soap with the plant colorant directly in the lye solution! Madder (Rubia tinctorum), indigo (Indigofera Tinctoria), and manjistha (Rubia Cordifolia) are three natural colorants that can be used straight into the lye solution to bring out their best color.Madder and manjistha will give a gorgeous pink, depending on the amount you use.

Paprika – Paprika is a great natural colorant to use in soapmaking! It is made from ground peppers. You probably already have some in your cooking spices. As you can see from the picture above, it gives you a nice bright orange color. If you add it to the soap as a powder, you will get speckles and the soap will be gently exfoliating.

In most of my soap recipes I show the type of soap mold I use and/or recommend. In many of my more recent ones it’s often the pink six-bar mold you see below. It’s convenient, easy to use, lasts a long time, and fits a 1-lb soap recipe perfectly. There’s a WORLD of soap molds out there though, both that can be purchased and can be made.
